Hi, I’m James Rotanson
I design software that helps team collaborate @Atlassian by day, build app that helps home cooks organise their meals by night @Bentofy, and make watercolour prints on occasions in my shop. Born and raised in 🇮🇩, grew up in 🇸🇬, frequents 🇯🇵, currently based in 🇦🇺
Selected works
At work, I design products that help teams collaborate more effectively. My extensive experience in interaction design and user research have enabled me to work with product and engineering to simplify complex problems in products, platforms, and enterprise settings. I believe in thinking by making and specialises in bringing abstract concepts to life from 0 to 1.

Bentofy
I founded Bentofy in my spare time to make it easier for home cooks and busy professionals to organise, plan, and share meals in a simple and beautiful way. What started as an observation of an everyday problem turns into an app shipped and available in the iOS store.
-

Jira Work Management
I currently lead the design for Atlassian’s newest product, Jira Work Management. As part of the new product framework, we are bringing the power of Jira to expand beyond Software and IT teams and to every business teams in an organisation.
-

Atlassian Fabric Editor
A cross-product, editor platform that powers content creation and collaboration in all of Atlassian products. I lead the redesign of the editor to be more reliable, predictable, intuitive, and expressive to make it easier for end users to collaborate on content.
-

Jira Project Configuration
I worked along side senior designers in the team to democratise project creation and configuration for Jira. In this project I learnt a lot about user research, pair designing, and the interplay between admins and end users and how to shape the behaviour within an organisation.
